The Carson Food Bank

If you were to take a survey in Carson (and not get shot) you would find that a substantial
percentage of Carson citizens live (considerably) below the official U.S. Government poverty
line. Some live on incomes that are almost invisible. We know of one Carsonian who lived
almost a year on $10 a month! For these folks, who struggle just to stay alive, the Carson
Food Bank is a godsend.

The Food Bank was started about five years ago by Richard and Tupper Hawley who saw a need and decided to fill it. They arranged to pick up food at a distribution center at their own expense and haul it to Carson, where they distribute it to those in need every week. Grateful clients come from near and far—some from the mountains, quite a distance away. The food ranges from pure basics—bread, rice, potatoes, etc., to some very fancy delectables on occasion. (depending on what the restaurants and grocery stores who supply the food contributed that week.)

Besides the Hawleys, a few other locals participate in the weekly food distribution and collectively, have donated thousands of hours to this particular neighborhood improvement project. They invite those in need to contact them. No one is turned away. They welcome contributions of food, money and time. For more information phone 751-3090.
